Whilst lower ski resorts have been struggling as a result of the unusually warm temperatures, the high high altitude luxury skiing here in Chamonix means that snow conditions are still very good with 360cm on the high slopes, mid station slopes 160cm and lower slopes circa 50cm.

Practice Day British Interschool Ski Challenge

In Les Houches at the Grands Bois in the Chamonix Valley, aspiring British athletes from the UK and Europe will be starting their final preparations for the British Interschool Ski Challenge with races commencing tomorrow morning for all 300 contestants.

Ages range between 7 and 18 and contestants fill a variety of ability levels that range from keen holiday and dry slope skiers that just enjoy testing their development on a competitive course through to international standard youngsters who could be competing in the FIS World Cup in 5 to 15 years time.

Regardless of ability, the British Interschool Ski Challenge is a great event and here at Luxury Chalets Chamonix we will be at the course from tomorrow morning supporting and capturing the action, fingers crossed that we may be witnessing a British medalist in the making!

British Interschool Ski Challenge

This weekend British schools an others will be descending upon Les Houches here in the Chamonix Valley for the British Interschool Ski Challenge that takes place on Monday and Tuesday of next week (12th and 13th March).

Practise takes place today and Sunday with over 300 contestants from the UK as well as international schools in Geneva and the Alps. Here at Luxury Chalets Chamonix we will bring you all the results and analysis from the race in what looks set to take place in great snow and weather conditions on the Grands Bois.

Team Managers should note that after practice today and tomorrow, Sunday at 17:30 is the 'Team Captains Meeting' at the Hotel Etoile des Niege. 

Warmer Weather set To Return

Here in the Chamonix Valley, after the recent snowfall and north easterly winds brought a wintery feel to Chamonix ski guests, next week sees temperatures rise again with spring conditions being prominent throughout the week.

With a high pressure positioning itself over the Alps, overnight temperatures will fall below freezing, but quickly rise in the morning and may reach double digits by the afternoon. Perfect spring skiing for Luxury Chalets Chamonix guests.

Snow In Chamonix Ends Warm Temperatures

After some unseasonally warm temperatures at the end of February and early March, the week commencing 3rd March has seen colder temperatures return and snow today and earlier in the week. Pistes as a consequence are in good condition with around 20cm to 30cm of snow covering what is still a great base of snow after record snowfalls earlier in the season.

Here at Luxury Chalets Chamonix we have been told by some of the piste controllers that with over 4 metres of snow still on higher slopes and 2 metres on many of the others, that the season may well be extended well into the middle of May.
